St. James Tree Planting

St. James High School planted oak and magnolia trees at the new school after securing an educational grant.

St. James Tree Planting

St. James High School Principal Shane Kliebert proposed a “Tree Planting Initiative” after securing an educational grant through Koch Methanol St. James.

On January 20, 2023, St. James High planted 28 oak trees to line the entrance and exit of the new school. The design will mimic the rows of oak trees planted in the 1930’s on Great River Road at the old high school site, now the current location of Koch Methanol St. James. In addition, 8 magnolia trees representing our former segregated Magnolia High School were installed. Together, the two trees represent a bond of “One Community, One Heartbeat.”

Local dignitaries and members of past graduating classes came to plant and celebrate this memorable event. Koch Methanol St. James Environmental, Health and Safety Manager Kevan Reardon commented at the tree planting event.

“Koch Methanol looks to support the St. James Parish in four specific areas: education, community enrichment, entrepreneurship, and environment," Reardon said. "This tree planting initiative truly embodies all four of those aspects. Koch Methanol is excited to watch as these trees grow and carry on the Tradition of Oak Trees at the St. James High School established nearly 100 years ago.”
